How to Transfer Ownership in Squarespace
Transferring ownership of your Squarespace site is a crucial process if you’re moving your website to a new owner. Whether you’re selling your site, transitioning responsibilities, or simply passing it on, this guide will walk you through each step.
1. Log into Your Squarespace Account
Start by logging into your Squarespace account. Enter your email address and password to access your dashboard.
2. Select Your Website
Once logged in, click on the website you wish to transfer. This will take you to the site’s management area.
3. Access Settings
From the left-hand menu, click on the settings icon. Navigate to the Permissions and Ownership section.
4. Initiate Ownership Transfer
In the Permissions and Ownership section, you’ll see an option next to the current owner’s name. Click on Transfer Ownership.
5. Verify Your Identity
You’ll need to verify your identity by entering your password. This is a security measure to ensure that only authorized users can make changes.
6. Choose a New Owner
After verification, you’ll need to select a new owner from your list of contributors. If the new owner isn’t listed, you’ll need to add them as a contributor first.
7. Add a Contributor (If Necessary)
To add a new contributor, click on Invite Contributor. Enter their name and email address, select their role (e.g., Store Manager), and click Invite. The new contributor will receive an email to accept the invitation and create their account on Squarespace.
8. Complete the Transfer
Once the new contributor accepts the invitation and is added to your site, return to the Permissions and Ownership section. Click on Transfer Ownership again, select the new owner, and follow the prompts to complete the process.
