How to Add a Pop-Up on Squarespace

Adding a pop-up to your Squarespace website is a fantastic way to engage with your visitors and encourage them to take action. Whether you want to promote a special offer, collect email addresses, or direct users to a specific page, pop-ups can be a powerful tool. In this guide, I’ll walk you through the steps to add and customize a pop-up on Squarespace.

Step 1: Log in to Your Squarespace Account

Start by logging into your Squarespace account. Enter your email address and password to access your dashboard.

Step 2: Select Your Website

Once you’re logged in, choose the website where you want to add the pop-up. Click on the “Website” button below the relevant site.

Step 3: Navigate to Website Tools

In the left sidebar, go to “Pages” and scroll down to “Website Tools.” Click on “Promotional Pop-Up.”

Step 4: Enable the Pop-Up

Click on the toggle to enable the pop-up feature. This will activate the option to display a pop-up on your site.

Step 5: Set a Goal for Your Pop-Up

Decide what action you want your visitors to take. You can choose from various goals, such as signing up for a newsletter or clicking a button. For this example, we’ll use a button click. Add a label for the button, like “Download,” and link it to your desired URL, such as your website or a PDF file.

Step 6: Save Your Changes

Remember to click “Save” to ensure you don’t lose any of your edits.

Step 7: Edit the Pop-Up Content

Return to “Website Tools” and adjust the content of your pop-up. You can edit the headline and body text. For instance, you might use “Special Offer!” as the headline and “Get 20% off your next purchase” as the body text. Don’t forget to save your changes.

Step 8: Customize Display and Timing

You can choose when and where the pop-up appears. Options include displaying it on the homepage, specific pages, or after a visitor scrolls a certain percentage down the page. Set the frequency for how often the pop-up should reappear to the same visitor.

Step 9: Style Your Pop-Up

Under “Style,” you can customize the look of your pop-up. Adjust the font size, color, and style for the headline and body text. You can also change the background color and button appearance. Choose whether you want to use a text label or an icon for the close button.

Step 10: Preview and Test

To see your pop-up in action, preview it by visiting your site in incognito mode. Scroll down to trigger the pop-up and ensure it appears as expected. Click the button to test the link functionality.
