Right from the moment you log in to your Hotjar dashboard, you’ll notice its intuitive interface. The layout is clean and well-organized, ensuring that you can quickly access the information and features you need without getting lost in a sea of menus and options.

HOTJAR RECORDINGS

This is the number one feature that made me fall in love with Hotjat.

Session recordings are essentially video recordings of real user interactions on your website. They allow you to step into the shoes of your visitors and see precisely how they navigate, click, scroll, and interact with your web pages.

These recordings capture the entire user journey, providing a wealth of information that can drive improvements to your site’s design and functionality.

Key Benefits of Hotjar Session Recordings:

1. User Behavior Insights:

  • Session recordings provide a deep understanding of how users engage with your site. You can identify common patterns, such as where users drop off, what elements they struggle with, and which areas of your site are most engaging.

2. Problem Identification:

  • By watching session recordings, you can pinpoint specific issues or obstacles that users encounter. Whether it’s a confusing navigation menu or a broken form, these insights can inform your optimization efforts.

3. Conversion Optimization:

  • Understanding user behavior is key to optimizing your website for conversions. Session recordings help you identify bottlenecks in your conversion funnels and make data-driven improvements.

HOTJAR HEATMAPS

Hotjar’s heatmap feature is my second used feature, by when I play with I get lots of valuable insights into where visitors engage the most and where they disengage in a visual representation.

These are screenshots of the same round-up review article from one of my affiliate sites.

After seeing the top three spots where the visitors kept looking, I quickly got some conversion optimisation ideas:

  • 1) Giving the blue and yellow products the first positions, in order to increase their chances of being seen by potential buyers.
  • 2) Not removing these two products while updating the article.

After switching the heatmap type from “Clicks” to “Movement”, I got another insights.

What I understood from the movements heatmap is that the last two products are not reasoning with the visitors.

With this information, when updating this article, I know exactly what to remove and what to keep.

HOTJAR PRICING

What I like about Hotjar pricing structure is that it keeps everyone happy.

If you are not yet making some money from your website, you have a generous basic plan that gives you enough data for free.

If you already started making some money from your website, at a reasonable price ($32 USD / month), you can remove a slight traffic limitation and unlock some filters in order to make analyzing your visitors data a little easier.

While Hotjar is a powerful tool, some users may find its pricing to be on the higher side, especially if they have limited budgets. However, it’s important to weigh the potential return on investment (ROI) that Hotjar can offer in terms of improved website performance, user satisfaction, and conversion rates.

If you have a growing business, the Business plan make a lot of sense if you need advanced features like integrations, the ability track custom user attributes, or pin-point exactly where your users are getting frustrated with rage clicks, u-turns and more.

Cons of Google Analytics:

  1. Complexity: Google Analytics can be complex for beginners, and its vast array of features may require a learning curve.

The choice between Hotjar and Google Analytics ultimately depends on your specific needs and objectives:
