How to Merge Tags in Mailchimp
Welcome to Ben’s Experience! In this blog post, I’ll guide you through the process of merging tags in Mailchimp, a crucial skill for anyone looking to streamline their email marketing efforts.
Step 1: Log into Your Mailchimp Account
To get started, log in to your Mailchimp account at mailchimp.com. Once you’re inside, navigate to the audience section where you can manage your tags.
Step 2: Access Your Tags
Scroll down to the “Tags” section under “Audience.” Here, you’ll see a list of your existing tags. For this tutorial, we will merge the Las Vegas tag and the California tag.
Step 3: Check Your Current Tags
Before merging, it’s helpful to see how many contacts are associated with each tag. For example, the Las Vegas tag might have one contact, while the California tag may have several.
Step 4: Create a New Tag
To merge these tags, you first need to create a new tag. Click on the “Create Tag” button and name it something relevant, like USA. This new tag will serve as the parent tag for your merged contacts.
Step 5: Select Contacts in the Las Vegas Tag
Next, go back to the Las Vegas tag and select all the email addresses associated with it. You can do this by clicking on the “Select All” option. Once selected, click on the “Tag Contacts” button and choose your newly created USA tag.
Step 6: Repeat for the California Tag
Now, repeat the process for the California tag. Select all contacts and tag them with the USA tag as well.
Step 7: Verify the Merge
After you’ve tagged all contacts, go back to the USA tag to ensure that it now contains all the email addresses from both the Las Vegas and California tags.
Step 8: Clean Up Old Tags
Once you confirm that the merge was successful, you can delete the old tags (Las Vegas and California) to keep your tag list tidy.
