How to Import Contacts in Mailchimp

Importing contacts into Mailchimp is a straightforward process that can significantly streamline your email marketing efforts. Whether you’re migrating from another email service or simply adding new contacts, this guide will walk you through each step to ensure a smooth import.

1. Access Your Mailchimp Account

Start by logging into your Mailchimp account at mailchimp.com. Enter your email, username, and password to access your dashboard.

2. Navigate to the Contacts Section

Once logged in, go to the “Audience” tab and select “All Contacts.” From there, click on “Add Contacts” and choose “Import Contacts” from the menu.

3. Choose Your Import Method

Mailchimp offers three methods for importing contacts:

• Import from Another Service: Select this if you’re migrating contacts from another email service.
• Upload a CSV or TXT File: This method allows you to upload a file containing your contacts.
• Copy and Paste: Simply copy and paste email addresses directly into Mailchimp.

For this guide, we’ll use the “Copy and Paste” method. Click “Continue” and enter each email address on a new line.

4. Organize Your Contacts

After pasting your email addresses, you’ll need to organize them. Select the audience you want to add these contacts to. If you have specific groups within your audience, you can check the relevant boxes to add your contacts to these groups.

5. Tag Your Contacts

If you have existing tags in Mailchimp, you can apply them to your new contacts. This helps in categorizing and managing your audience more effectively.

6. Set Email Marketing Status

Choose the email marketing status for your contacts: “Subscribed,” “Unsubscribed,” “Non-subscribed,” or “Cleaned.” For most cases, “Subscribed” is the appropriate choice.

7. Finalize the Import

Click “Continue” and review your import settings. Once everything looks good, click “Finalize Import” to complete the process. You will see a confirmation that your contacts have been added to your audience.
