How to Add Sales Tax on Squarespace

If you’re running an online store using Squarespace, adding sales tax to your products is crucial for compliance with tax regulations. This guide will walk you through the process of setting up sales tax on your Squarespace site, ensuring you can handle tax requirements effectively.

1. Log into Your Squarespace Account

First, sign in to your Squarespace account and select the website where you want to add sales tax. Navigate to the main dashboard and click on the website you’re managing.

2. Access Tax Settings

Next, go to the ‘Settings’ tab in the website’s dashboard. From there, select ‘Selling’ and then click on ‘Taxes’. This will bring you to the tax configuration page.

3. Add a New Tax Rate

Click on ‘Add Rate’ to start configuring your sales tax. You have the option to set up taxes manually or use automated solutions. For this guide, we’ll use the manual setup.

4. Select the Country and Region

Choose the country where you want to apply sales tax. For instance, if you’re adding sales tax for the United States, select ‘United States’. Then, choose the specific state or region, such as California.

5. Set the Tax Rate

Input the sales tax rate for the selected region. For example, if California has a 5% sales tax, enter 5% in the tax rate field. You can also configure tax rates for digital products and services, shipping, or both.

6. Configure Zip Code Specific Rates

If you need to apply different tax rates for specific zip codes, click on ‘Add Zip Code Rate’. Enter the range or exact zip code and set the tax rate accordingly. For example, you might have a 10% rate for a certain zip code range, with different rates for other regions.

7. Save Your Settings

After configuring the tax rates, click ‘Add’ to save your settings. Ensure all rates are correct and click ‘Save’ to apply the changes.

8. Test Your Checkout Process

Preview your website and test the checkout process to see how the sales tax is applied. For instance, add a product to your cart and proceed to checkout. Enter a California address to verify that the 5% sales tax is correctly calculated.

9. Review Your Tax Settings Regularly

It’s important to review your tax settings regularly to ensure they remain accurate and compliant with any changes in tax regulations.

By following these steps, you can efficiently manage sales tax on your Squarespace site, ensuring that your online store operates smoothly and adheres to tax laws.
